Real Silk Hosiery Mills, headquartered in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, was operational from 1922 – 1961. In 1929, through mail order from their own on-site post office that could handle 3 million packages a year, and with the help of 10,000 door-to-door salespeople they sold more than 12 million pairs of women’s hosiery. During WW II they manufactured silk parachutes and hosiery for troops. Since 1986 the 425,000 square-foot mill has been condominiums.
